UPDATE: A few more pics .. .made some more progress hanging tools and also built a way simple way to store cans of spray paint. I even cleaned everything out around the race jeep, so it won’t be too long before I can address those spacers again (that should answer your question Mark). Over the next few days I hope to complete the rolling work table (and removed the long narrow table). I’ve also ordered some LED shop lights, which have received favorable reviews on Amazon. I’m hoping them will give better light and be easier to hang than the big florescent ones I already have. I will report on those when I get them.
The tables with the paint on them are the free tables given away by the local high school. I scraped the gum and washed them up. I also painted the legs on two of the tables black, as they were pretty scratched.
Here, I’ve started experimenting with hanging some of the tools. The wrenches on the right are standard, while the ones on the left are metric. The peg board on the left will have wood-working tools for now. We’ll have another load of dad’s (and grandpa’s) tools in a couple weeks, which will add to the boards and the tool boxes.
The race jeep is ready to receive some attention now that it is freed from stuff.

Originally posted August 19, 2021: In between everything else, I’ve been slowly working on my workbenches and places to hang tools, etc. One bench is about 8 ft long and the other 14 ft. They are made almost entirely out of recycled wood and reused screws. Now, I can start hanging tools and organizing the remainder into tool boxes.
My next project is a large, rolling work bench that will be the same height as the work benches. After that, I need to hang some lights over the benches to provide better light. Here’s a quick look.
It’s gettin fancy. It must be nice to have such a big and organized shop to play in. Enjoy!
NICE , I WANT MY SHOP TO LOOK LIKE THAT — ONE PROBLEM , MY BARN / SHOP IS FULL TO THE RAFTERS WITH VINTAGE WILLYS PARTS AND VEHICLES — NO ROOM TO WALK TILL I MAKE SOME STORAGE BUILDINGS — MAYBE SHIPPING CONTAINERS ? QUONSET HUTS ? — WINTER IS COMING — CANT WORK OUTSIDE — ALL MY TOOLS ARE IN CARDBOARD BOXES — ROLLAWAYS EMPTY — LIKE CHUCK BERRY SAID –> ” WORKIN AT THE FILLIN STATION , TOO MANY TASKS , WIPE THE WINDOWS , CHECK THE TIRES , CHECK THE OIL , A DOLLAR GAS , TOO MUCH MONKEY BUSINESS FOR ME TO BE INVOLVED IN ” .. ps , i used to work at a filling station , gas jockey , mechanic , early 70’s ..
Wow, Dave. Nice shop. Great to see it coming together.
Need lots of horizontal surface , it gathers lots of stuff whether or not you want it to.
Looking at the size of that gas-fired heater, gives me an understanding of the size of the total room! SWEEEEEEEEET!!!!!
This is where I will go after death I hope.
Looking great Dave. Hanging shop lights might be challenging with those way high ceilings. Maybe you can run a tensioned cable across the shop from one wall to the other high enough to hang the shop lights on ? Then you could run the wires back to wall outlets and not get too fancy with pulling wires inside your ceilings . Just an Idea. Have fun!! Oh did you ever get those spacers off the race jeep ?

its black widow / scorpion / rattlesnake season at my shop — why is everything around here POISONOUS ?
Very nice Dave!
I think it wasn’t long after I was working on those spacers that I ended up in the hospital, so I haven’t done anything with them since then
David. In the Northeast that area would be converted into multiple condos. Your going to get much better use of it.
WOW…….Dave, let me explain something…….coming to ewillys every day is suppose to be a positive experience for us ! When I see how nice….neat….clean…..organized…..warm……bright your place is, I start getting real depressed and just wanna throw a match to my pitiful old shack !!
Keep it up and please keep sharing your progress. Hope all is well with family
Allan
Dave,
The LED shop lights are awesome. They are smaller and lighter and brighter than the old fluorescent ones. I replaced my old fluorescents in the basement and they really light the place up!

Not every jeep has a plush carpet to “mark its territory on”, or a shop with such a tempting luxury of a comfy couch over carpet to “impede production”. What an enviable place to “spend your future in”, either as a Jeep or as people. Congrats! Stay HEALTHY so you and Ann can enjoy it for a long time.
Frank: we have a new subdivision being built about 2 miles from us, so people are coming here, but our area is safe for now …
Allan: In my early 20s I built my first jeep in a dank, dark (4 standard lightbulbs total), unheated, disorganized garage over the winter of 1984 (dressed in multiple layers). Everything I cut was with a hacksaw, including some half-inch thick steel. I swore some day I would have a better shop. I just didn’t think I’d have to wait three-plus decades … There are most definitely nicer shops (just as their are nicer jeeps than mine), but I hope to share the pics to share my ideas in hopes it inspires other folks with their shops. As for the organization, I did that on a smaller scale at our previous house and it made doing projects much more of a pleasure. But, to do it on the bigger scale like you see in the pics, meant that I’ve had to put in some time building the space, which is another reason eWillys is on hold.
Glenn: I was told the same thing about the lights. They arrived yesterday, so I hope to test them later today or tomorrow.
Steve: That plush carpet was left over from the previous property owner (he left several carpets, so plenty of carpet left for “jeep pee”). As for that couch, it needs to go. It will just get dusty in the garage and it’s not all that comfy in my opinion (but it does look comfy). As for Ann, she’s getting better by the day and feeling much, much better, thanks to the stomach surgery.
