Bill shared this article about one author’s experience with buying a 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It’s a good read, though I don’t think the writer actually answers the question of the headline, “What I Wish I Knew Before I Bought a Jeep Grand Wagoneer”. I suspect the editor of the website where the article was posted created the mis-matched headline.

The author didn’t have much luck hunting through classifieds, so he decided to place a “jeep wanted” ad in Kijiji. That resulted in him finding a rust free Wagoneer. He eventually upgraded the powertrain to a Vortec engine and is very happy with that decision.

Read this article the other day on Yahoo. Big take-a-ways were, If you buy these, they are good at towing:
2 trailers; a fuel trailer and a tool/ parts trailer – in tandem. Reminds me of an early Jeep memory from 1972. Saw a lady in Rumson NJ with a brand new ’72 Wagoneer. Asked her how she liked it. She replied.
“Hate it. It’s always in the shop!” And, that it would make a nice, 3rd car Mall Crawler for short local trips.

That’s quite a towing load! An old GF of mine had a Grand Wagoneer. It had tons of miles and wasn’t in the best shape, but it still had a comfy ride.

I drove a 1967 Wagoneer to Alaska in 1978 and 81. 327, 3 speed on the column. Wish I still had it.
