UPDATE: Well, clearly the exhaustion got the best of me on this post. I thought this was a North Carolina story, when in fact it was a California story.
This November 11, 1946, article in the Wilmington Daily Press Journal highlights the opening of Carl’s Motor Company. I’d love to see an original of that photo.
Dave, in the upper right hand corner the newspaper says it’s located in Wilmington, California. I didn’t know there was a Wilmington in California either.
Wilmington is a suburb city next to Long Beach, right along the Harbor and the terminal area for the cruise ships. 1200 N. Avalon is now some kind of school. The Willys dealership probably got bulldozed back in the 60s.
Thanks guys. I’ve corrected it. My comment explanation of our long day just disappeared. We have one more day of driving tomorrow. Hopefully, there will be some updates for Sunday.
Learn something new everyday. Thanks Dave!
