This photo, marked as photo #3, shows prototype CJ-2 X59 at New Hudson. The caption discuses the Ginsu-like qualities of the jeep on the farm: It can mow, disk, rake, trash and probably slice and dice with the right attachments.

I don’t have a very good monitor, but that looks like it says X59 to me. Fred’s Pre-Production book is packed away, so I can’t look at it, but I think the CJ-2’s serial number and the experimental number (x-#) don’t match. I have seen many pictures with that license plate, but can’t quite make out the X number. The early jeep history is sure interesting. I recently watch a TV show that referenced the CJ-1, and thought they were mistaken, but factory Willy’s photos do reference it. I need to dig out my Jeep history books and start re-reading them. Thanks for these interesting press release posts.
Mark, clearly your monitor and eyes are better than my eyes with the original image. You are correct on the X59.
Looks kike the 3332 license plate was used on numerous X vehicles.
I never noticed the plate was used elsewhere. I’ll have to check that out.
