“1948 Willys Jeep with less than 30,000 miles. I am the second owner and have only put 250 miles on it. It has been changed to a 12 volt system. No rust. Also have an aftermarket cab for it. Runs excellent. $6250 OBO”

    Dave,
What is the round plate held on with 4 screws just to the left of the tail gate used for ? My 46 CJ2A had this and I never knew what it’s purpose was.

    Rick,
I always thought that round plate covers the Trailer Socket location …in Jeeps that do not have the actual trailer socket. That’s what it’s for in the earlier WWII Willys MB and Ford GPW.

Rick, good question. Joe is correct. It’s a left over of the WWII jeeps. It is a trailer socket hole with a cover. But, the CJ-2As didn’t have the trailer receptacle set up at the factory. Based on what I’ve read, all the CJ-2As should have the hole and the plate cover. It was gone by the time the CJ-3As arrived.
