Would an original sign have the ‘registered trademark’ R inside of a circle after Jeep? Was that used in the late fifties, early sixties?
It sold for $460.
Last I looked a few hours before it ended, it was 150. My guess is because Dave posted it, price jumped.
David: Even after Willys-Overland obtained the Registered Trademark for Jeep (in the vehicles category), the company didn’t always use the “R” on a regular basis. Still, it did show up on some brochures. For an early example, it appears on the front of this 1953 CJ-3A “Farm Power” brochure (http://www.ewillys.com/2012/08/26/early-1950s-farm-power-brochure-on-ebay/), yet not on the second page of that brochure. I have not researched at what point the company became more aggressive about using the “R” with “Jeep” on a consistent basis.
