According to Fred on a CJ-2A forum thread, this photo shows the tailgate that Fred purchased back in 2016.
A tailgate for 1500?
Bob, apparently only about 20 of these tailgates were made. If a person wants a completely original CJ-2 agrijeep, but lacks a tailgate, finding one is pretty near impossible, so the seller basically dictates the price.
Dave I wonder If those preCJ2A tailgates have a serial number like CJ2As do.

I did some searches, but could find no discussion about numbered CJ-2 tailgates. Given the discussion Fred had here (https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/cj2-tailgate_topic45515_page1.html) my guess is that the tailgates didn’t have numbers, otherwise he’d be able to tell whether the tailgate listed for sale was a real one, a repro, or something else.
