UPDATE: **Sold** was $2900. See Bob’s comment regarding Benny.
(03/30/2019) Now I’m hungry for a hot dog. My favorite “hot dog” jeep was this surrey with a hot dog setup, also out of New Jersey.
“Benny’s got dog truck great Little business or event truck”
Note the lettering on the door bottom. “umbrella room” I wonder what significance that has, at one time maybe sold hot dogs from a cart under a umbrella?
I found some reference to hotdogs and an umbrella room on Pinterest, but no real explanation (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/390054017697334287/ … description is “Hot dogs in the umbrella room”.
I liked that NJ hot dog Surrey as well. Never could get any other info about the serial number on the Jeep from the seller though.
Another jeep that’s only available to facebook nerds ( no phone number) ,and 1960 ??????
Terry: Yep, I should have thrown a question mark behind that “1960”.
I knew Benny, as a regular customer of the “Umbrella Room”. Here is the information on him: https://www.newjerseyhills.com/hot-dog-benny-at-79-longtime-resident-of-hibernia/article_793ce5b2-aad8-57bd-98e6-2975753609d1.html
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the information on Benny!
– Dave
Benny’s home of the want mores was the most awesome hot dogs. They snapped when you bit in. They were little tiny sabretts in the casing. Benny made his own onions&sauce and also chili. He would call to me in a big round voice “Hello young man” “Home of the want mores you eat one and you want more” ! He was right. If you brought your pooch along he would throw them a free dog as well 🙂 Miss those days.
He would sit in the jeep and serve them right out the window. The seat would swivel.
Thanks for those memories Adam!
