Most likely, a DJ3A body mounted on an older CJ2A – 3A chassis, priced right.
ID is only 49 units away from my 62 DJ. To use the DJ tank and location where the filler is, if a CJ frame, then they would have had to cut out the v-cross member in the back. It would be nice to know which was original.
SteveK, you make an interesting point about the gas tank. Although I’ve seen many DJ3A’s converted to 4 wheel drive, I was wondering if Willys or Kasier ever made a factory DJ3A in a 4 wheel drive version. I know for the record the DJ3A was only produced in 2 wheel drive, Has anybody ever heard of special orders or government applications of 4 wheel drive versions? Just curious, got me thinking.

We’ve yet to document one. My feeling is that if they needed a 4WD 1/4 ton, they ordered M-38A1s, CJ-5s, or CJ-3Bs.

It seems “nothing was off limits” for Willys to meet “customer needs”, so who knows, except the WHO that may have ordered one. I saw a picture of a Postal DJ5 with 4WD and right hand drive in a rural snow area, but who knows what the ID said? One way to verify, is the serial number matching the ID plate on the frame rail too as with DJs??? I guess one would have to ‘buy it’ to find out… WAIT… I just zoomed in, and it looks like an open DJ front frame as well. Don’t CJs have a heavy crossmember up front???
I have this DJ3A 56337 19564 listed from last year, so it is the same one. In looking at the photo of the dashboard with the center speedometer and the 4 gauges on either side, that entire panel looks like it came out of an early 1960s Ford Econoline, so maybe that is where the engine came from also. Not difficult to put 4WD under a DJ3A.
