UPDATE:**SOLD** Was $5750
Bill shared this former Tahoe Fire Department Jeep. Pretty neat!
“From Korea to California, this Willys/Jeep has seen it all. If this Jeep could talk! Plenty of war wounds to let your mind run wild.
Hi, I’m selling my 1952 M38A1 Willys. The Willys has seen a very colorful life, starting with its tour of duty during the Korean War era to its rebirth as a rim fire Willys Jeep, putting out rim fires along the Northern Sierras in the Tahoe National Forest. Bumps and bruises tell the story of the life of this non-stop built to do service, Willys. 90 thousand original miles. All of the Military accessories are still on the Willys and intact. The Willys has never let me down. This is a numbers matching Jeep! Fresh tuneup, fresh rebuilt carb, This Willys is turn key and ready to go, and is a blast to drive. The ‘ol Willys get thumbs up everywhere we go, and, I’ve never washed it, the Willys has earned the dirt and dust that this workhorse wears! Below is a bit of history in regards to the legacy of the Willys M38A1….Enjoy!

Surprised to see the hubcaps still on.
this went up and down the sierras , up and down , looks like a lot of times ?? — my father would never tell me what he did in the Korean war , he was in the navy but clammed up about Korean period of his service β¦ wait a minute ? I was conceived in 1952 ?? — hmmmm , interesting …
I would image the hubcaps were added later, as they are newer than ’52, but any hubcaps remaining on a jeep is a surprise.
My father was in the Navy in the 50s after Korea and flew missions to Asia (he never served on a boat), missions he still won’t discuss (classified).
Has anyone realized that this is a MILITARY M38A1. It does make a great fire jeep. BUT M38A1 JEEPS DID NOT EVER LEAVE FACTORY WITH HUBCAPS AND THEY HAD NDT OR NDCC 700×16 TIRES ON KELSEY HAYES MILITARY WHEELS WITH SAFETY GROOVE. So you can bank on it that this is former MILITARY. It has data plates. Did you think to check RESPONSIBLE AGENCY on data plate. Responsible Agency is who received it from factory. Any more questions?
Hubcaps say the wheels are later, mid 60s 15 inch rims , CJ or Jeepster Commando, not any military .
Dan …. most of us understand that M-38A1s were sold via contracts to government agencies. Then, many M-38A1s were transferred (sold/donated/retired) from the military to people and to agencies for use in non-military applications, like the one above. Most of us also realize that M-38A1s did not have hubcaps and, as Terry notes, the hubcaps are from the 1960s.
Thanks,
– Dave
Noone seems to have remarked how very cool this Jeep is… as it sits!
The price isn’t unreasonable either. I like it π
Dave, I’m confused now. Are you saying the original military hubcaps should be painted olive drab and not chromed?
Paul,
Now that’s a good way to start my morning π
