UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500.

Might be a good price.

“I am selling a running and driving 1948 Jeep. This Jeep belonged to a friend of ours and was in storage for 8 years or so according to it’s last registration and of me seeing John bombing around Silver City in it. John passed away last year and his daughter is here from New Zealand trying to tie up his estate. It will be sold on a clear New Mexico title. The Jeep was at his storage unit in Deming and was up on blocks .

I used it’s a- frame to pull it back up here to silver City and it towed back with no problems and was very stable back behind my van. The Jeep is fitted with twin fuel tanks .The right hand side is not connected but I found a brand new control solonoid in a box to make the twin tanks work. I drained and flushed the left hand tank and replaced a few old fuel lines to get it running. Next I went through the brakes and the shoes all round are now working . I had to remove and clean the brake master cylinder as it was gummed up. So these repairs were only to make the Jeep run and drive so I could take his grandson for a short drive up to road and so I knew the Jeep runs and drives and stops.

I found a box of new parts including the mentioned fuel solonoid , as well as engine and transmission mounts. The transmission has 4 gear levers and all are working ( I went through each one while I had it up on blocks). This little Jeep looks great it runs and drives but is 70 years old and would be a great fix it as you use it or best would be a complete restoration. John bought 5 refurbished rims and new military style tires at great expense .

I found 2 spare rims also( not refurbished). I removed the doors to take it for the drive. Some of the zippers on the soft top and windows are not working but I did not mess with them. My wife took a video of myself and John’s grandson on it’s little drive and I will try to include a link to it. Also I did a little research on the engine and it has a later ‘ hurricane’ engine (1950’s ). Although more powerful it is taller and leaves very little room for an air cleaner. John did fabricate a filter system out of plumbing materials but it is not pretty and most definitely needs updating ( in the spares box are new metal pieces and what could be an air filter housing?). Not sure so don’t hold me to that.
see it in action…”
