I found this Hurricane Engine Introduction on eBay. It’s the first one I’ve seen. It credits Barney Roos for redeveloping the L-head into a more powerful engine without forcing a complete retooling.

PROBABLY THE GREATEST ENGINE EVER MADE — CHEVY SMALL BLOCK V-8 , CLOSE SECOND — DELMAR ROOS DID US JEEPERS RIGHT — CASE IN POINT — I LAST REBUILT MY F-4 134 IN 1974 — ITS IN A WILLYS 1948 MODEL 4WD TRUCK — NEVER DID USE THE L-4 134 , IT HAD A BAD CYLINDER WALL AND WAS LAYING IN A FIELD IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT , 1972 — HUMBOLDT COUNTY , CALIF — ON A FARM NEAR PATRICKS POINT STATE PARK — 150 BUCKS — THE F-4 134 HASNT SKIPPED A BEAT SINCE THE 1974 COMPLETE REBUILD — ITS A MIRACLE OF AMERICAN ENGINEERING KNOW-HOW !!! — PS , I HAVE A ****LOAD OF F-6 161’S WAITING TO GO IN JEEPSTERS , 2WD WAGONS AND SEDAN DELIVERYS — MR ROOS WAS THE DEVELOPER OF THAT ENGINE ALSO …
I love how one of the head bolts is inside the “manifold” directly under the carburetor.
HAHAHAHA — THE HURRICANE 4 IS LIGHT BREEZE — MY POST ABOVE IS 55% BULLCRAP — THE HURRICANE 4 IS SO UNDERPOWERED ITS ACTUALLY — DANGEROUS !!! — I HAD A CALIF HIGHWAY PATROL PULL ME OVER BECAUSE I WAS GOING TOO SLOW ON A FLAT , SEA LEVEL HIGHWAY — HOW BOUT THE TIME I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON U.S. 101 IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY TOWING A 49 JEEPSTER AND HAD TO USE LOW RANGE ??? — ON A MAJOR FREEWAY ??? — 72 BHP — I ALWAYS SAID I’D BE HAPPY IF I HAD ABOUT — 20 MORE HORSES ???
