I’m going to guess that Pvt. Green is not inspecting the sign for any fine print ….
“1945 Press Photo Pvt Oscar Green in Jeep on Ledo road in Burma jungle area. This is an original press photo. Pvt Oscar Green of Taylorville, Illinois, stands on the side of his jeep to get close up view of this caution sign, one of many which dot the Ledo road forming junction with the Burma road and breaking Japanese land blockade of China which has officially been named the Stilwell Road.Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches. Photo is dated 02-17-1945.”
LOL Dave! “Private… Private… PRIVATE!!! PRIVATE GREEN!!!!!!” As he turned to answer, Private Green wiped the drooling from his mouth and chin with his sleeve, cleared his steamed eyeglass lenses and said, “Yes Sarge?” You idiot, get that hand saw out and get to work on that sign on the double! Got that!!!” Private Green replied back, “Yes Sergeant, right way!” as he shuffled around bent over. Meanwhile, the Sarge took notice the two lackeys bringing up the rear had quickly made it to a cigarette. Dave, I’ve got to admit, Company A (Co.A) had regular De Vinci amongst its ranks!
That gave me a good laugh Barry 🙂
Fun humor! Interesting that Private Green came from Taylorville, Ill. Very small town back then. My Dad came from Taylorville also, but wound up in the ETO instead of the tropics. They may have known each other.
The feminists today would have a heart attack at that sign… lol.
Apparently Niels P., Private Green was about to also! But heck I’m a feminist too and a lesbian also. Yep trapped in a man’s body because I love women too! I have a lesbian friend and she agrees with me. Heck, she said I can be whatever I want to call myself these days. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander so to speak. That’s why there’s always a gaggle going on round here.
