UPDATE: Barry worked the phone on this. See his comments below.
Is this the gravity dump bed highlighted in a 1955 Willys News article? It’s not an exact copy, but it’s similar. Both tilt to about 45 degrees. Here’s the article.

“Dumpbed Willys , snow plow lift , hydraulic pump and valve , pretty much all there , just rusty, does not run . Also has a clear PA title .”

Very close but I don’t or can’t see any pivot points on the top of gate’s side. The bottom has very well made hinges on the bottom which appear to be dual purpose. Meaning they would become the release points before dumping. I just don’t see the upper pivots. Definitely not the same depth and appears to be somewhat longer. I’m going to call and get the info.
Dave I called and the tailgate opens just like a normal gate. I asked him to take two pictures of each side locking points and post them to his ad. He’s a fabricator and believes that it is a very well home-fabricated unit with two cylinders underneath and only about a foot deep and 4′ long by his eye.
Thanks for doing legwork on this. Yep, I guess there are some hinges on the bottom. I think I REALLY wanted it to be the one in the pic cuz it would be a great find 🙂
