UPDATE: **Status Unknown** Was $8995.
(12/03/2016) I wonder what the pole setup is for …
“ESTATE SALE. Very Rare 1949 Civilian Jeep CJ3A. First year for the CJ3A. Older restoration in Battle Ship Gray exterior. Engine rebuilt by previous owner. Has been stored inside. No visible rust. Runs & drives as it was meant to. Indicated mileage is 14643. Think of the fun you could have with this original 4WD vehicle. Serious inquiries only, please. Shown by appointment only.”
I hope that’s not being used as a roll bar
Nice 3A, best guess on the poll setup is would be for some kind of summer top that would allow for the windshield to be folded down.
It maybe a 49, but radiator grill says mid year 1950 when Willys changed from bottom mounted radiator to grill mounted. Serial number would confirm year. Very nice clean jeep though.
“VERY RARE 1949 JEEP”, The description amazes me, what’s so “RARE” about it? What I find amazing is the fact that so many of these old Willys Jeeps survived. Back in the 1950’s when I was a kid, it was almost impossible to find a Jeep in a junkyard, Chevys, Fords, Dodge, Etc, but not a Jeep to be found.
This gave rise to specialized Jeep parts dealers like Sarafan, Morris the Jeepster Man & VanDine Motors (John VanDine). Still looking for background information on Mr, VanDine.
If it were a 49 CJ2A that would be more rare than a 3A for sure
My 48 had that exact same pole setup on it… I never could figure out what it was for but a summer top is the best theory so far.
That’s possible Erik. I sure don’t know!
