1951 Willy’s CJ-3A Jeep (Civilian / M-38 Military Clone)
Serial# 3J77908
This jeep is privately owned and 100% turn-key. Selling only because I have multiple project vehicles and no time to enjoy this one anymore. It’s a great weekend cruiser and gets lots of attention wherever it goes. Truly classic Korean War era jeep that would be a great addition to any collectors line up.
I purchased this jeep from a farm in upstate NY and was my fixer-upper project back in 2009. I have the clean title in-hand, exempt status, antique registered w/ period correct tag, recent oil change, new tires, and only needs a few minor repairs to make it perfect. I have put only 1,500 miles on it since purchased, no accidents, adult owned, garage kept, never seen rain or snow, never off-road, non-smoker and no dents or dings, 46k original miles on drive train. I start it every weekend and take it for a short ride to keep her running.
The original L-134 4cyl “Go-Devil” engine (134ci / 60 HP) was removed around 40k miles and replaced w/ a 1962 Buick Odd-Fire “Fireball” V6, 3.2L engine (198ci / 135hp) w/ low original miles. This is a rather rare engine that was only in production for 2 years! The previous owner removed the oil filter due to interference with the front differential and was never replaced. This is common with this engine setup and a relocation kit can be purchased online or custom modification can be built. I have the original jeep engine and will go with the sale. Exhaust pipes have minor surface rust but no leaks or holes and exhaust sounds nice. I removed the original points ignition and replaced with new electronic system, original hydraulic brake system removed and replaced with new power brake system from pedal to drums, brake lines, master cylinder moved to firewall, new timing chain and gears, new water pump, new alternator, belts, horn, electric fan, radiator hoses, heat works, no electrical issues, all gauges work, military lights and switch are not wired though.
Original Dana 25 front axle w/ lock-out hubs, rear Dana 44 axle w/ 5:38 gears, T-90, 3 spd tranny and Dana 18 transfer case. 4×4 works great, transfer case has small leak, and rear differential has small pinion seal leak, detent springs in 4×4 shift levers need to be replaced; shifters wobble. Jeep is rolling on new Firestone 7.00-16 Heavy Duty 6ply tires.
Original body is in amazing shape for its age with one small rust/rot hole on passenger side step plate. I repainted the jeep from its original red to an olive drab green. Re-upholstered seats, military lap belts, replica data plates, rifle mount under windshield, ammo storage box, auxillary gas can, authentic frag armor jacket, dummy grenade, canteen and helmet to complete the theme. Original parts going with the sale are the windshield wiper assembly, gas filler neck guard, rear orange side reflectors and Willys engine.
No joy riders, low-ball offers, or scammers. Vehicle is being sold “As-Is” condition and no warranties implied. Serious inquiries only, thank you. Please call or text for further information.”
