Those are so cool. There’s been a rumor around here for year that one of those is at the bottom of a local lake. The story is that goodyear had one to do some tire studies. They had it out at Wingfoot Lake, where the blimps reside, to do some photos of it. When they had it on a dock, the dock broke and the coupe went to the bottom. I’ve heard this from several people, but tend not to believe it as the average depth of the lake is only 9′, and why would they not just pull it out if that happened. Once nice thing is that lake is now a state park, if I had some side-scan sonar on my fishing boat, I’d go out and look for it.

There were two of these made, one went to Goodyear Tire and the other was to go to ALCOA, however, Willys kept it and it was bought by the Chief Chassis Engineer at Willys, Miguel Ordorica. His son, Miguel still has the car in Michigan. One of the cars had a Jeepster frame with the large X member under it and the other car, Miguel’s has a station wagon frame under it.

No, in my correspondence with Miguel Jr., he doesn’t know what happened to that one either.

I have a photo of the one that exists somewhere in my computer. It’s a cobalt blue one. If we had our show in Toledo, he was going to bring it. It does look a little Studebaker.
