UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.
Engine needs work.
“I bought this nice little Willys CJ2A a couple years ago from somebody near Kalispell. The story I got when I bought it was that it had been parked in enclosed storage since about 2002 without being run. It had a hard top on it from new (which I have since sold to a guy in Holland) and so had very little rust. I bought it and went up and got it, nicer than I expected except the guy said it didn’t run very well, popped back through the carb. I knew it needed some engine work when I bought it so it wasn’t a big surprise. I brought it home, threw a battery in it and it started right up but popped through the carb. I figured it had a stuck intake, which is pretty typical of these little flatheads. I pulled the plugs and tried to free it up with a brass punch but while I could get it to go down, I couldn’t get it to where it would go down just on the power of the valve spring. I ordered a set of all 8 valves, new guides and a gasket set, took it to a guy to put a set of valves and guides in; he called me a few days later and said he wasn’t going to be able to finish as he just got in a big job to do. I went and picked it up and it has been sitting in my storage ever since.
It did sound very good except for the popping, no knocks, oil pressure came right up, starter works fine, all that. Never did drive it but I assume all the 4 wheel drive and that works good, they drove it in the shop when they stored it.
I will never have time to do it so here it is for sale. I already have a 48 CJ2A that runs great and is licensed, insured and on the road, 4 Willys pickups and a couple parts pickups so I don’t need another one as bad as I need money; especially since I am paying storage on this one.
It has now set out in the weather for a couple years and some of the brushed on blue paint has come off, there is now some surface rust in the floor boards, etc. so I decided to sell it. As far as I can see, there is only one small hole rusted through — on the right side floorboard. I think they all have that. However, the seats are good, the original frames in usable condition are very hard to find, these are good, the original wheels are all there, most were changed to 15 inch in the 60’s when 16 inch tires became hard to find, etc. It has big channel iron front and rear bumpers with a tow hitch on the front.
This is almost 70 years old, hard to find one that doesn’t have a little rust, this has some just not much.
The price includes the new valves and guides, gasket set and a rebuild Carter WO carb with a $50 kit in it. If you want it without the engine so you can put a different engine in it I’ll sell it for $2250 and you can bring me back the engine when you get it out.
The rest of the running gear looks good. Somebody took good care of this little Jeep — I see very little body damage and it looks like very little body work has ever been done on it. It has a nice swing away spare tire carrier on the back and a gas can holder. The tires look better than they are since they are at least 20 years old but they are full of air and round so they are at the least good rollers and at the best usable.
It is located in East Helena in a storage yard. Give me a call and we can go take a look at it.
I have a clear, current Montana title for it. ”
