UPDATE: Jeffrey’s Data plate:
Originally published May 01, 2017: Nick Oxender added this data plate from a Navy CJ-3A to his collection. According to him, this one was found at a flea market 5 years ago. It’s in excellent shape – the only “wear” being from the dash screws. The previous owner suspects one of the guys was out on the town and totaled the Jeep, and all that survived was the tag. Either that, or someone thought it looked nice and swiped it.
This data plate was so nice Nick was skeptical about whether it was real or not. After quite a bit of research, he found one guy that made a small run of them, but those weren’t produced within the time frame of when this one was found.
Does the CJ-3A page have a list of Navy plates? Might be an interesting this to assemble.
I don’t remember seing one but Bob W may know it.
Maybe we the contract # we may find something.

I have a database of 19 USN CJ3As. So far, all of the USN 3As stack on top of each other indication to me there was a rather large order that Willys built all at one time. Your SN# falls at the end of my database and I do not show another Contract # Like the one on your plate.

Harold, please email me at: nickmoxender@gmail.com I’d love to check that out, and I have a few CJ3A APU data plates you might be interested in seeing.

Hello – I have a jeep with the same type of data plate. Can you guys tell me more about these jeeps?
Hi Jeffrey,
Can you email me a pic of your plate? I may be able to provide you more info. (d@deilers.com)
In general, these plates were placed on civilian jeeps ordered by the military. They have been found on CJ-3As, CJ-3Bs, DJ-3As, FCs, Trucks, and Wagons (I can’t remember if any were put on CJ-2A jeeps).
Here are some examples of plates (some pics better than others) that have appeared on jeeps for sale over the years: http://www.ewillys.com/?s=%22Gov+plate%22
I hope that helps. Feel free to ask additional questions,
Thanks,
– Dave

Email sent sorry for the delay. It is a CJ3A with the navy data plate.
Hi Jeffrey,
Yours looks like an authentic CJ-3A Navy Plate. Obviously, the delivery date indicates when the jeep was delivered (though it looks like your jeep has a 2A body based on the location of the starter switch and the hole underneath it?).
Some folks have been able to use the Contract Number on the bottom of the plate to learn more about the contract related to their particular jeep. Whether the information related to your contract number still exists is unknown.
I hope that info is helpful.
