Louis Marx was always one of my favorite toy makers back in the 1950’s, just seemed to key into my childhood mind. Marx Jeeps came in many styles and series, the pressed tin they were made from, gave them a very authentic look, unique to Louis Marx toys.
I had a Marx Jeep in the 1950’s that was my all time favorite toy. Although I had many Structo, Buddy L and Tonka toys to play with, the beauty and simplicity of Louis Marx play sets remained embedded in my mind to this day.
Long story short, my toys were kept in the basement along with my dog Fido. One summer day, Fido was having a grand time in the basement, I went down the stairs to see what he was doing. Fido was chewing up my Prized Louis Marx Jeep. Life was never the same after that incident.
In relation to this First Edition Louis Marx Jeep, I’d love to buy it, but two grand is beyond my budget and that of most collectors of vintage toys.
Mike, this will likely be the saddest story I will read all day!!! Bad Fido, bad dog!
Keep in mind that $2,000 CND is less than $1,500 US! It is easy to park, good on fuel, cheap insurance, low maintenance and does not need restoration. It may even go up in value.
Ed, so true!
It wouldn’t be worth five pence if my youngest grandson got ahold of it!
