(03/07/2017) Ted’s friend Vito is selling his original CJ-5. Any specific questions or offers can be directed to Vito Cell # 860-478-4244.
Listing for a friend of Mine, 1957 Willy’s Jeep CJ5 for sale. Very clean unmolested low mileage CJ5, 14,188 original miles. Anyone interested in a very clean early Willy’s CJ5 for restoration or drive as is with its great patina this is a great candidate. Everything works as it should, starts runs and stops beautifully. Ive heard this Jeep run and driven it and it feels like you would expect a 14,000 mile Jeep to run and drive.
Items original to this Willy’s include the following. F head Motor, T90 Transmission, Model 18 Transfer Case, Front and rear ends, original paint, original side steps, wheels with new tires including the spare, original CJ5 Soft Top Bows with correct windshield frame bracket for mid bow to Windshield frame Wooden support Piece.(Wooden Support is new) New Beach wood Canvas Works Summer Top. Original Drivers, Passenger, and CJ5 rear seat frames all professionally reupholstered. Pics really don’t do the seats justice (They are very nice) Tailgate and Windshield frame are both also in excellent condition. Windshield frame rubber seal in tact and excellent as well. Windshield Frame folds down and up as it should. Turn Signals, Wipers Vacuum and Manual in tact and working. Headlight Bezels, Parking /Turn Lights and Tail Lights all original and working, in fact one if not both of tail lights are NOS originals.
Jeep has been converted to 12 Volts for easier starting and functionality, including electronic ignition , all bulbs , Voltage Regulator, and Generator conversion. The speedometer is still 6 volts but included but not yet installed is a voltage reducer to make fuel and temp gauges work correctly. Brakes have been adjusted and new Master Cylinder installed. Original Carter YF Carb has been professionally rebuilt also, choke and hand throttle work as they should. New Battery. Period correct Sears Allstate Locking Hubs.
I have included a photo share site link with lots of pics to show closeups and condition of Jeep. Included in the pics are the few areas of body with damage and or any slight rust issues , including one very small hole in Drivers floor section ,and one hat channel in need of repair. The Hood, Grille, fenders, Tail Gate, Windshield Frame, Cowl and dash, Floors, Tool Box section, and Rear Tub areas are all in excellent condition with just the normal wear and tear of a Jeep that’s 60 years old. I would say that over all this Jeep body is in very good to excellent condition for its age and a great survivor for a full restoration or fix the few areas needed and keep its original look in tact. Frame and Springs are also in great shape with just the usual surface type minimal rust. The Jeep has had its share of oil leaks (which they all do) that in my opinion is a great deterrent to fighting any major rust issues.
Overall excellent example of a very original low mileage early Willy’s CJ5 ready to go as is or for a full restoration. Jeep has original Serial Number ID Tag, and is sold with a State of CT Bill of Sale.
In Rhode Island you must have a bill of sale and EITHER a title OR a copy of registration in the seller’s name to be able to register it. Additionally, any out of state vehicle has to have the VIN # run by the local police. Requirement #1 above is all about a tax trail and ensuring everyone has paid their share along the way, and requirement #2 is about making certain the vehicle isn’t stolen. The only option you might have around these requirements in RI might be to go through a dealer. I do not pretend to know all the legal requirements in CT, but I do have a friend that had an M38A1 with only a bill of sale and he was unable to register it in CT. This is a common problem in New England because most of these states do give titles for vehicles this old.

Nice cj5
beautiful cj5 nicest un molested one seen in a good while 🙂
in terms of registrations, since this is an historic, classic vehicle I have found the most states motor vehicle administrations will work with you if you can provide sufficient documentation as to the year and serial number and they will work with local law enforcement to run it against a national Motor VehicleData base to ensure its not stolen. could take a little time and effort but with it for this sweet Willy’s!
I have bought a number if items over the years from Ted the Lister and recently a nice twins tick PTO from Vito the owner of this 57 CJ, both of show are very honest and quality folks unlike many other scammers out there in our community, you all know what I am talking about.. 🙂
