i wonder if it was some sort of tour jeep and those bars are some sort of roll over protection.

Mark: I think it is there just to hold the top. I hate to imagine anyone would think those bars would provide protection in a roll.
Probably not for protection, but to hang on to when going over rough terrain while taking tourists into the hinterlands!! Might have been painted pink at some point for service with the Pink Jeep Tours in Sedona, AZ. They might keep the body from flexing too much also.
