Is he saying the 12 volt system is also factory? I’ve never read anything about any WWII jeeps having 12 volt. Has anyone else out there?
I really wish seller had posted pics.

I certainly am no expert on ww2 jeeps but have no knowledge of 12 volt being used in them.I guess back then the only way to get 12 volt would have been to have 6 volt batteries hooked in series.

I had no knowledge of a 12 volt MB or GPW either. But, knowing Willys and Ford, one should never say never! Sure enough, I found an interesting thread from G503. Based on the thread, it is possible, but seems really unlikely the GPW was factory 12 volt. If it was, it likely had the field kit noted below.

Below are comments from this link: http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17393&start=0

Ford made test jeeps in 12v, but only 8 each 12v GPWs were produced for use by the USMC to guard the White House (or was it 9?). They used a cowl mounted 6v battery along with the standard 6v battery. I believe Jim Gilmore can confirm this.

Ford also made a field kit MWO-ORD-G503-W7 in 12v.

Wiilys Overland produced 45 each 12v test jeeps in 26 amp, 40 amp and 55 amp versions in 1943 for the Army.

Willys made factory 12v radio jeeps for the Navy for use by the USMC. They were the NOM-12 and MZ-1 (production of 1990 each) and the MZ-2. I do not have production figures on the MZ-2. This PTO/12v generator was also in kit form as MWO-ORD-G503-W5 for the Army and a kit to turn a standard MB into a radio jeep for the Navy.

Finally there was a 24v version of the Willys PTO driven radio jeep. I have not seen any BOM documentation on this generator but do have a drawing which refers to the jeep (or maybe just the generator) as a MB-NAVY-24. Another factory version of the radio jeep, don’t know, but maybe sometime I will find some kind soul willing to share their documentation with me! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€

Oh, almost forgot, the GPA is 12v. I show 12774 of them made.

Nice research Dave! My comment I posted while on break,so I will use that as my excuse for my lack of research!
