UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3000.
“1946 Jeep Willys CJ2A
The good: Drivetrain is rock solid. Engine smooth with no knocking, ticking or smoking. 4WD high and low good. Transmission good.
The bad: Well, look at it
Classic barn find. Has never been on the road, has never had a plate. Was sold back in the day as a farm implement and then spent a lot of its life at a cabin in Wisconsin. I have the title from 1979 and my Indiana title all clear and normal.
Have receipt from previous owner who put $1123.55 worth of parts on it including new tank, electric fuel pump, master cylinder, seats, tune up,,,,. I put a NOS Carburetor on it (the old brass jets were wallowed out and clogged).
12 volt. Starter works perfect. Generator passes the old trick of taking off the battery cable and the engine keeps running. Amp meter shows charging.
Oil pressure gage works. Runs with very good pressure.
Wiring is a mess, that old cloth and paper wire has fallen apart. Ignition and generator cobbled up with some new wire.
Brakes usta work fine (new master cylinder on receipt), but now pedal is stuck and I don’t want to push too hard.
Tires are dry rotted antiques. The left rear blew the tube out. Working on putting in a boot and tube just so it can run around again. I would not take it down the road or anywhere at much speed. Bring a trailer.
I’ve had it for 8 years. Have done very little with it. Great plans, few results. Wife is nagging about it just sitting around and I feel like doing something else.
I added a few pictures from 2008. Sure looked a lot better, but must be indoor paint or something, sure didn’t hold up.
Here is where Craig’s List People need to pay attention: NO STUPID OFFERS
I am not going to play the offer counter offer annoying game. The price is the price is the price. It’s going to be like a reverse auction. I’ll lower the price a little at a time until it sells. If you make an offer, I will tell you to read this again and pay attention this time. If you ask me “Whats yer bottom dollah?” I will say the price is listed in the ad.
I am in no hurry to sell. If it takes a year, I don’t care. If you wait, you might get it cheaper, you might miss it.
Of course CASH. No trades, not dead chickens or a second hand check from Nigeria.
And to you pest scammers, I will not take your check including a little extra for my trouble since you are out of the country while a shipper will come and get your item.
This is a very crusty old Jeep. But saying that, it is an original old Willy with a solid drive train”
Quite a patchwork on the body panels. Looks like that yellow floor jack is currently holding the rear end up for some reason, perhaps because the left rear wheel has no lugs (he mentions that flat).
Good detailed write up and I like his attitude. Hope she finds a good owner to put her on the road.
that jack is part of the new “lift kit”.
“Starter works perfect. Generator passes the old trick of taking off the battery cable and the engine keeps running.” Is this a legitimate test of the generator?
Hey Steve ,that’s a legit test. If gen is charging battery ,jeep should stay running when pos cable is removed from battery.

Thanks for the info, Ted.
Good to see I’m not the only dinosasur on this list. I must have checked a fair number of alternators and generators for folks when they were worried about their battery. The fun part was telling them they need a new ballast resistor that cost $2.00. My first M38 I wired it up using a 1963 dodge coronet schematic with the ballast resitor. Live and learn.
