UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500. See Glenn’s comment about the unusual rear PTO gearbox on this.

“We are selling a 1948 Jeep CJ2A. It was converted to 12 volt years ago but the gauges were never switched so they do not function. It has a power take off unit out of the rear. Other than that, it is stock. It has rust over several areas, though none are severe. There is no top for it anymore but the windshield is still fine.

It has a new carburetor, new brake lines and new brake pads. The gas tank is out of it but has been cleaned and the welds tidied up. The engine is a 4 cylinder, and has always performed perfectly in my life time, though it has not been started for the past 5 years since the fuel system has been apart. The tires look to be original so I do not know how much longer they might last.

There is one original seat frame but no cushion and two new boat seats that will easily bolt to the body.

The vehicle was purchased by my grandfather in the 1960’s and used as both a commuter vehicle for several years and then as a farm vehicle after that.”

Some interesting equipment on the jeep. That is not the standard rear PTO gearbox, have not seen one like it. The round device under the hood looks like some sort of vacuum booster device. I have seen them before, but don’t recall the function.

I’ve been waiting years to see that PTO gear box on a Jeep. Go to the C.L. ad for a better view. It was built by Ramsey Winch Co., Don’t have the Model Number right here. I have two of them, they simply change the rotation direction, no change of the 1 TO 1 Ratio. Bolts as designed to a standard Willys draw bar. I have never seen a Part Number to order one in any Willys or Ramsey Catalog. I have had the gear box at many shows, and no one has clued me in as yet on its purpose. One of them came off an IH Scout. Derek Redmond and I discussed this topic at The Willys Jeep Rally in College Corner, OH last weekend. If anyone in eWillys Land knows more about this strange gearbox, please fill us in. My email is: glenns@tdstelme.net

I bought the jeep. Interesting pot. I haven’t done muc tinkering with the pto yet (too many other tasks) but it looks like it is factory installed. The read portion looks to be really a pump of some sort My plan is to remove it so if you are interested let me know

The vacuum thing is vacuum assist brakes. Seems the guy used the jeep to mow his pasture for the last 50 years and the brush hog would push the jeep so he installed an after market brake assist. Wil be interested in seeing if it is worth the trouble

    Val,

Thanks for the update. Most of the interest may be back east, as there tends to be more demand for PTO stuff. I might have a buyer interested. I’ll ask him.
