Steve let me know that these to jeeps were auctioned this past weekend. One was supposed to be a completely NOS, non-restored jeep in mint condition. However, I thought the data plates looked a little too shiny? There is a good shot of them late in the video. The MB sold for $24,000. The restored GPW sold for $25,000.
Here’s the link to the video:

It’s claimed in the video that the ’44 MB is original and unrestored, with zero miles. Yet, it has an incorrect hood number, one of the most basic and important pieces of information for a WW2 jeep. Maybe it is worth $24k, but my red flag sure went up.
I would question that as well. An original, unrestored 44 MB for $24,000 seems cheap to me.
The lack of 1/2-door sockets is a sure sign of a reproduction body. I have seen some really nice unmolested MBs and GPWs. They don’t look anything like this one. Shame on Wayne for this blatant misrepresentation. Let the buyer beware…………. -RG
Seeing as there was a mostly original, but rough, 43′ GPW barn find that sold in NJ a couple months ago for $19k, this is certainly cheap for “NOS”. I agree with Richard about the half door snaps, too. On top of that, the data tags do seem awfully unique as well.
