UPDATE: Still Available.
Has no paperwork. Looks like the stenciling might be original.
“purchased in 1966 from U.S.Army, one owner since- driven little from 66 to 86. from the latter it was only started 4 times a year. after 28 years we drove it out on the road this summer. we never titled this, and at this time we can’t find the papers from the Kanas military base it was purchased from. Only serious partys please, after 48 years it’s time to let it go.”

Wish it had a clear title. It would have been a purchase for someone.
tom, the military never has and never will hand you a title, they don’t have one to give you– that’s up to the buyer to get a title for road use and for the buyer to comply with the proper lighting, turn signals and so on. the military gives you something on the order of a bill of sale or a purchase agreement. go out a buy a hummer, no title, no road use– it’s in the purchase agreement

When a vehicle is sold as surplus you get at least a SF97 which is required to get a title. Since govplanet has been selling off rolling stock I understand they now issue a title if you request one. HMMWVs are sold with an off-road title or marked for off-road use only on the SF97, but yes DLA (“the military”) or the surplus disposal agent does issue more than a bill of sale. Also, most states only require equipment that is original to the vehicle. For example, my 1952 M38 does not have turn signals and only has one brake light. Since the vehicle originally came with only that equipment, that’s all my state(s) requires. I’ve registered and titled historic MV’s in AK, GA, MI, KS and no issues so far. I don’t know what for they gave out in 1966, but without a SF97, original bill of sale, or prior registration it will be hard or more expensive to title.
Or it CAN be hard or more expensive to title. There are probably ways to get it done easily, depending on the state. Of course not all of the easy methods to get a title are legal, so your results have the potential to be VERY disappointing.
talked with the il. sec of state on the title issue, a simple bond is all takes to get a title, much like getting title for a rat rod. but it all boils down to , you want or don’t you. my next move will be to part it out. done than before and made more money than to sale it as is.
It looks mostly original and very straight, it’d be a shame to part it out. Decent price too. If it’s that easy to get a title in IL I hope someone saves it as is. I don’t have room in my stable for another Jeep.
If you have to part it out I’d be in for some original parts.
SOLD
Thanks,
I’ve updated the post.
