Last weekend Joe’s military transport club contributed thirteen vehicles to the Gilbert Days Parade in Arizona. He took pics of the jeeps and a few others. Great stuff!
Joe wrote, Here are pics of 4 military jeeps from our club (AHMTA – Arizona Historic Military Transportation Association) that drove in today’s Gilbert Days Parade. Scott David’s 1942 slat grill was in pole position, further back was my 1942 GPW, followed by Dave Boehmer’s MB with his son
manning the .30 cal, and protecting our “6” was Mike Wixom’s 1950 CJV35/U.
The weather was perfect; the vehicles all ran great; the crowds were
cheering; and we “invaded” a nearby Sonic afterward.
Staged near our 13 or so military vehicles was a collection of 6 incredible rat rods all apparently owned by, or representing “Preferred Foot & Ankle Specialists“. I don’t know anything about that business/practice but I sure liked his vehicles.
This particular one has a 1948 CJ2A front end with a “narrowed” 1950’sWillys truck cab, converted to right hand drive (why?). Several inches were chopped out of the middle and the windshield cut/changed to narrow the cab.Pretty nice work, even if rat rods aren’t your thing.
Here are the other 5 rat rods that the local podiatrist brought to the parade. They have no “Willys” connection, but I sure liked them.
Joe you have a good looking GPW.and a nice group of jeeps that were with you.very cool rat rods as well.a good variety of jeeps and rat rods! 🙂
what is the passenger “door?’ on joe’s jeep ? hard to tell from the pics…nice group of jeeps + rats !!
Craig/vermont,
The door was on my GPW when I got it. I first thought I’d stumbled onto a rare WWII ambulance-modified GPW (I forget the name of those), but no. Instead, this is a unique modification. But since I don’t know if some GI or marine put it there, or “Bubba” after the war, I haven’t removed it. Plus, it’s the only way my WWII-Veteran father can get in: so the door is staying 🙂
