Tom’s been working on the restoration of this CJ-3A APU. He’s wondering if anyone knows anything about the three-wheeled APUs that were auctioned in California about five years ago. He’s hoping to find some of the hard-to-find APU equipment.
Here are a few photos of the APUs sold a few years ago:
Here’s how he started, with a jeep he didn’t know was an APU. Since then he’s been learning more about them.
I saw those 3 wheeled jeeps being used on aircraft carriers in 1950’s war movies.
I have the correct Holly carb for your F head engine that allows you to
close the hood without cutting a hole in it.
I also have the correct distributor that drives a mechanical tach.
Nick,
Does it have the f-head triangular hood bump? I would be interested in some pics of that jeep for historical purposes. Not many of them left, so I’m trying to preserve them as best we can.

You might give a try at the US Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola FL. They have a reference library that may be of help.

Thanks for the info I want to stay with this carberator because that is what appears to be correct for this jeep and its purpose. The distriburtor is tempting just to have tachometer work.In the correct state the tachometer was driven off th bottom of the gernerstor drive unit that drove the generator for airplane mantenance.
What do you want for your distributor?
Nick,
Dave sent me the pictures that you shared with him.I am notwanting to by the jeep but I would like to talk to owner to share info can you give me his contact please?
Dave
I have posted a response to each person that responded to this post but not sure how it gets to them please send to them incase they do not reread.
