Rick pointed out to me that this 1958 CJ-5 has no battery box lid nor does it have the knockout piece on the passenger side of the hood. Is it possible this was special ordered without those items? Or did they sometimes use the battery box bodies and sometimes use the non battery box bodies? Nearly all the CJ-5s I’ve recorded have the battery box lids on the 58s.

Interesting observation, I didn’t notice that till now that it’s mentioned. I really don’t know but this CJ5 always looked too perfect and STRAIGHT to be ORIGINAL, nothing wrong with that, just pointing out that may be a replacement body. Has been listed a few times on ebay, last location in NJ. All these restorations, kind of remind me of the Antiques Road Show, not always what it looks to be.
Doesn’t show the hood thing, even
though it’s an M-38A1 based fire Jeep.
Possibility that the hood was replaced or ?????
