The strips on the first jeep,s hood are a spare tire carrier bracket. The jeep is a Holden ambulance conversion built by the Holden automotive co of Australia for the US Marines in WW2. The conversion had an box installed in the passenger side entry and a small door cut into the back panel along with stretcher racks and an extended canvas top. The rear mods reguired the spare to be mounted on the hood. The rack was hinged at the back of the hood and used 2 hood catches on the grille so the hood could be opened for engine access. A internet search for Holden Ambulance jeep will bring up plenty of pictures.

Thanks! I knew of the Holden, but did’t recognize it from this angle or remember the strips. 🙂
