“For sale at auction: Lot #3000 – This 1957 Willys Jeep 6-226 4×4 station wagon embodies all the charm of one of the first production SUVs. This vintage beauty is powered by an original 226/115hp 6-226 Super Hurricane inline-6 flathead engine with 190 ft/lbs of torque, a 3-speed manual transmissions and 4-wheel drive.
The result of a comprehensive bare-metal restoration completed in 2012, this restoration sports festive red paint and hand-painted wood-grain body side appliqués replicating available faux wood paneling that was available when these were new, but to a much higher standard. In addition to its split front and rear windows, the car has many other interesting details, including chromed front and rear bumpers, a luggage rack complete with vintage luggage, amber front driving lamps, new wide whitewall tires and custom chrome full-size wheel covers with hand-painted Willys “W” emblems. That last feature is repeated inside on the steering wheel center hub and complements the bright classic Tartan seat coverings, full headlining and carpeting, added auxiliary gauges, and a rare original Willys Overland heater.
Only 7,364 of these Willys Jeeps were ever built. Proceeds of the sale of this vehicle will go towards the “Marines to the Mountains” program of the High Fives Foundation. During the next winter season, 10 Marines injured in service will visit Squaw Valley along with Jacob Schick, a third-generation Marine who suffered multiple injuries in Iraq and was featured in the movie “American Sniper.” Jacob is a past recipient of a High Fives grant to go skiing with Disabled Sports USA and the High Fives crew at Squaw Valley. Owning the striking Willys Jeep is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will provide 10 deserving Marines the joy of conquering the ski slopes. **ALL PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT HIGH FIVES FOUNDATION** **WILL BE SOLD AT APPROXIMATELY 2:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 2015**”
This is a really nice Jeep wagon. I suspect it will bring a large amount at auction, even though there is no reserve. It is going to a charitable organization and those type auctions bring in a lot of money.
