Peter shared photos of a few jeeps he used to own.
He writes, Enclosed several photos of Jeeps in the 1960’s which I thought might be of interest. Two of these were taken outside Metamet the Jeep dealers in Daleham mews London around 1966 at the time I was making regular trips for parts.
The other photos show my first jeep CJG which I regrettably soon found out was more suitable as spares. It had at some time been given some form of conversion and the body extended, the rear enclosed with planks ! An extra length towbar can be seen. This jeep was beyond ever getting being put back on the road so was soon disposed of.
The replacement was VYK 749 which was purchased from Metamet for £175, quite a lot of money at that time. An ex British army rebuild jeep it ran well until engine bearing failure necessitated engine removal. It was found that the crankshaft could not be reground and a new one obtained from a Ron Lee of Stonhouse St Clapham south London. Lee used to keep a reasonable amount of new still packaged spares. The last photo shows VYK with another jeep enthusiast living in the same area of South London.
Nice pics!
I love these photos of jeeps “back in the day”, when everyone probably looked at these old jeep owners & thought of them as eccentric.
