UPDATE: **SOLD**
Both look interesting. You don’t find many M-38s with heaters on the cowl.

Nice heater on the M38
The M38 is cool, but I doubt is a GI hardtop or heater.
The heater is GI the top is not. The heater is a gas fired unit designed for the m38.
The windshield defroster duct along with the duct work attached to the dash is original to the M38 with the cold weather kit installed. When this duct is installed the data plates are attached to the ducts and a lower duct piece covers where the data plates are currently installed. The Southward M978 gas fired heater is worth it’s weight in Moose meat during the long and dark Alaskan winter.
Hi Paul, Thanks for the primer on SW Gas Heaters and your value interpretation. Up here in Maine SW Gas Heaters were also common, especially in VW’s, but they frequently found ways to ignite outside the heat box. With this M-38 setup at least you could see the problem, had a windshield between, and a much better chance to evacuate.
Still have jeepster? (as of Aug. 24 2015) I get down to Chadron with job in rapid city sd occasionally.
Hi Bill,
The listing expired on Craigslist. If the Jeepster lands back on Craigslist, I’ll drop you an email.
