“Up for sale is this classic 1974 DJ5C Postal Jeep. This has been my daily driver for a few months now and I sincerely wish I did not have to sell it. It is right hand drive and equipped with an AMC 232 inline six engine, paired with a Borg Warner automatic transmission. The engine is amazing and produces more than enough power to pass people on the highway!

In its current state the DJ5 runs and drives really great, that said it would definitely benefit from continued tinkering.
I have been driving this thing over 30 miles to work, on the highway, almost every day with no issues.
The steering is a bit wonky, but I do have a new steering gearbox and coupling waiting to be installed.
I have had this tiny orange beast since January, and in that time I have done about half the work I planned to ultimately complete.

What’s been done:
4 new tires + alignment
Brakes flushed and refilled
New brake light switches
Replaced PCV valve and valve cover grommet
Replaced air cleaner mount gasket
Installed new breather hose and control duct hose
Installed new vapor canister and new vacuum hoses
Installed new CTO spark switch
Changed oil (filled with Rotella 15w40)
Replaced oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter
Put on a new oil filler cap
Upgraded from points to electric ignition (Pertronix Ignitor)
Installed new distributor cap + rotor
Upgraded spark plugs to premium NGK Iridium IX plugs
Installed new spark plug wires

What was next:
Install the new steering gearbox and coupling
Transmission fluid flush and change (no idea when it was last done so it seems like a good idea)
Install new transmission pan gasket (part is available from postaljeep.net for $10)
Install new shock absorbers and steering stabilizer (I don’t think this has ever been done, parts run $60-80 depending on where you get them)
Replace body and spring bushings (same as CJ5 bushing kit: $50)
Install a new bellhousing coverplate (currently the plate is missing, new one is about $25)
New exhaust pipe and muffler (existing pipe and muffler are functional, but rusted and ugly. Haven’t gotten a quote on this bit of work yet)
Sand out rust and repaint (as far as I know all rust is cosmetic and the frame is in good shape)
Finally I was going to put in an entirely new wiring harness (Rebel Wire sells a 16 circuit RHD harness for $230)

After much deliberation I have decided to see if anyone else would be interested in taking on this project. I am moving into an apartment soon and will be losing my workspace as well as the extra bucks needed to finish this Jeep. I also have an original technical service manual as well as the original sliding doors. I considered putting the doors back on, but I liked the door-less look, and in this climate who needs ’em anyways!

I am asking for $3800, but I am open to offers and/or trades for a reliable small truck or a Jeep Cherokee.

Feel free to ask any questions or set up a time to come see It in person. I would love to sell this Jeep to someone who will continue to fix it up, and I will communicate everything I know about it to assist with its restoration. I can be reached via call, text, or email. Thanks for your interest!!!”
