UPDATE: **SOLD** Was for Trade.
Robin spotted this unusual CJ-3A. It’s got some custom mods. That engine is installed way back.
“2.2L Dodge Turbo Charged 4cyl
Automatic
Power Steering
Motor and Transmission have less than 30k miles
Tires are like new
Custom built drive train
has been sitting for 4 years, but start and runs well”
This appears to have an M 38 body. It has the typical M 38 windshield vent. Also has the cut out for the tools on the passenger side. Also the holes for the mounting brackets for the top bows. Has the M 38 glove box door. Probably an all original body. Too bad that the engine compartment ,firewall and dash was modified.
Those features are common with reproduction bodies as well. However, it’s missing the battery box cowl lid, which is usually a sign it is a reproduction body.
I just thought the battery cover might have been remover when modifications were done for the engine to fit but now that you point this out, I do see some other common holes in the tub missing such as the ones for the rear reflectors and the spare tire mounting hole on the passenger rear quarter. Also the trailer receptacle is non existent. I definitely need to learn a little more about replacement body tubs. If only I had the money I couldn’t buy one of each to study. Suppose I could get a government grant under education?
I like the government education grant idea!
Many replacement tubs came from MD Juan. They were originally based on the M-38 body as that was all they had. Over the last couple of decades they have added additional bodies and tried to make them more accurate. So, in order to learn more about the type of reproduction tubs like the one above, you have to find an older reproduction tub like the one above (except obviously the firewall has been modified).
There is plenty to learn about all the different kinds of bodies. I seem to learn something new everyday!!
