Doug shared with me the windshield extension included by Sears when he purchased a soft top in 1971. So, if you see something similar, it was actually a third party modification!
He wrote, “Here are some pics of the windshield extension that came with the Sears full soft top that I purchased in approx. late 1979.I ordered the top for an MB/GPW, so it came with the extension. They sold the same top to fit a cj2a without using the extension. I remember going to a canvas/upholstery shop to have some help with the doors. For some reason I could not install the doors without some professional help. Can’t recall why.I got home late that night! I was 17 at the time.”
That’s exactly correct! It’s so cool to see another one of these! My father had one of these on his ’43 mb. I had always assumed that he made it. It looked just like that, but it wasn’t rusty. It looked new. I was 7 years old. That’s probably why. Wow, I’m old. That sucks. Moving on…
Oh Todd, don’t let your age get to you. You’re still young at heart. Good morning
Good morning youngling, any baby yet?
No baby yet. They induce tomorrow. Officially a week late now
You’re having a baby and mine is graduating next month. What the heck were our folks thinking…
OK, Now going back to 1965, (How old am I?, old enough to know better) I remember a guy trying to fit a top without one of these extensions, just couldn’t be done, nobody wants that “baggy pants look”.
They weren’t thinking. But it’s ok. I text your kids and you burp mine. It’s funny.
I am not sure why the extension has the surface rust.My jeep has been kept inside or under a roof since I have owned it.Oh that’s right the jeep and I live in the rust belt!
Chris: My oldest was a week late and they had to induce (he was born not too far away in Madison). He’s never been one to be in a big hurry 🙂 Good luck!!
