Has updated motor, but might still be worth a look.

“For Sale is my 1946 Jeep CJ2A. In fair condition but needs some work. 1963 154 CU four cyl. engine that needs work. Transmission and transfer case rebuilt with less than 100 miles on them. Too many projects to do so this one is going to go.”

Thats a chev engine. Good choice for a none stock replacement. Nice jeep for the price i think.

  2. Minnesota Chris

Some good value here. A lot of holes in the tail gate now. A few small changes and this jeep would present itself pretty nice

Peter Put one in my Bobcat racer. Used Clifford six = eight speed equipment on it. set the motor back 6 inches, ran well against V-8″s. Won a lot of offroad races with it in the Seventies. My BobCat weight approx. 1900lbs with a full cage. Ran a 390 holly on a manifold from Cliffords, Rods out of a Pontiac slant four (stronger than the chev) Forge dome top pistons, etc & etc. Excellent choice stock as a replacement motor, for trail running the woods.

Chris I’ve never restored a stock jeep! lol So you and Todd have me one that one!! 😉 I’m feeling bad about my old 3b. Guess I’ll have to buy a junker for jeeping! lol Buying some big old terras, to go run the spring snow. OMG stock steering! (age 66) lol. Chris it good to know guys that restore these jeeps back to original. I’ve had a lot of fun on here. Keep up the good work.

  5. Roy1959Cj3b

Chris I live next to mountains grew up on the jeep trails. First jeep a 46 Vec column shift at age 13. My first 3b had a 400hp 4 bolt main 327(pro built) with a BW T-10 tranny. Way to young for that jeep. Used to kick hell of the muscle cars!!! lol They didn’t like being beat by a jeep! 🙂

  6. Roy1959Cj3b

Chris if I had my choice of a dozen muscle cars or a dozen jeeps in my garage. There would be a dozen jeeps! lol

  7. Minnesota Chris

I agree fully, Roy. Seems like one jeep is never good enough. It’s an addicting hobby. I enjoy the chase for a nice, all original jeep or parts. Haven’t got into the racing end of it yet but I do appreciate what goes into it

  8. Roy1959Cj3b

Chris stick to what you are doing. Rock crawlers, offroad racing style jeeps, make Brains jeep look like peanuts, when it comes cost and overhead. If you don’t already have one, build a trail jeep out of a seen better days jeep. Go test your skills at four wheeling. If I get my act together some day we will go run some spring snow.(you can kick my butt!) 🙂 A lite weight Flat works best. Although my favorite jeep for trail running was a trash 1968 Cj with the V-6 and overdrive. Just not as lite as a flat fender with a chevy 4cy T-90 and overdrive. Todd lives in the right area for what I have in mind. The old 225’s and 231″s may be close in weight to the 4cyl. The flats have a big advantage in vision. My problem is I’m 6ft 2inches.

  9. Roy1959Cj3b

Chris buy this jeep it perfect, and I’ll drop off at Todds on the way back from Utah. 🙂 Enclosed 20ft trailer. 🙂

  10. Minnesota Chris

My buddies actually want me to pick up a “beater” jeep to do just that. Something you can run and not worry about breaking any parts or cracking the frame. I like original and stock (or love) but it would be nice to hit the trails sometimes hard and not worry about the flatties

  11. Roy1959Cj3b

Should say make him offer Chris 🙂 As Dave would say all he can do is say no as it does need work. You pay for the diesel from Clearfield Utah to Cimarron and back to Clearfield and I’ll pay the rest if Todd lives near I-90.

  12. Roy1959Cj3b

Frames are fixable (just have know the proper way to do it) never broke a frame on a jeeping jeep. The weak spot is in the front over the front Axle. But I have simple fix that. NEVER USE A ARC WELDER on the frame to hot for the alloy. Big tires are very hard on jeeps. 33’s are about it if you want keep your overhead low.

  13. Roy1959Cj3b

Chris if your friends are running heavy jeeps. You kick there butts with a light weight jeeps:-) Third place in the Calgary jeep play week hill climb. (Two very high powered V-8’s beat me to the top. They went over on pure speed.) with my chevy four and BobCat. If you end up with a flattie. You will have to have Dave make you a BobCat dome hood. I had one my racer and worked great. Looks good too.

  14. Roy1959Cj3b

Peter it cost me dearly to race offroad. (but I don’t regret it) You can still do the four wheeling cheaply if you forget big V-8″s, Mud Boogers, and rock crawlers. I’m buying a set of 31×15.5x 15 tires for sand and snow (small motor) F-head OMG ! 🙂 I totally agree, Trail running is my best memories.

  15. Roy1959Cj3b

Peter one off the things that spoiled me on an old jeep was I used two bolts on front and two on the rear of the front fenders. Need to work on the motor off with fenders! Now sit in my easy chair and work on it!! lol

  16. Roy1959CJ3b

Dave! lol You guys and your computers! I didn’t have this kind of tech. in my day!! lol 🙂 It appears there are two types of chevy II motors. 283lbs and 350 lbs. Wonder what the different’s is. The one I had came of a 90 inch Van ? year. The one I had as a backup was out off a car ?year. I wonder if the light weight one come out off the S-10 trucks (had a 98 s-10 with 2.5) Use to pull two snowmobiles on a two place trailer (I-90) at 75 to 85 mph to Idaho. lol 🙂 poor little motor!! lol It got very good gas mileage. Running Empty with fiberglass canopy, 25 to 28 on the freeway. Appears the smaller V’6 225-231 are in the ball park. More torque and more horsepower I would say. I believe a stock chevy was 110hp. The Mercusiers are 110-120hp. Have no idea what the one in my jeep put out after updates. I know this much it would run 90mph in the lake beds of Nevada. After reading those specs. It would be hard to choose. The four goes in easier. But I do like the V-6’s in a trail jeep. Those motors are hard to beat. Then there’s the 181 cu inch Mercusier 140hp stock lol Built run like V-8 in 100 yrd drags! lol ( I know I can’t spell lol) my name is Bubba! lol

  17. Roy1959CJ3b

On a real trail jeep use the KISS system. No computers , fuel injection, or any of the fancy stuff. Try completely submerging a new jeep and see what happens. I prefer the tie wire, duct tape and hammer method. Never failed to get a jeep out woods 🙂 I have a true story about a jeep in Grays creek up by Rimrock Lake. Only thing showing was part off the windshield and rollbar 🙂

  18. Roy1959CJ3b

Not sure when they changed from cast iron bell housings to aluminum. I used the aluminum bell housing. Bet you one you figure it out! 🙂

  19. Roy1959CJ3b

The reason I like this jeep is that it has a top, and the 4cylinder installed. From what I see it looks fairly good.

  20. Roy1959CJ3b

If you decided you don’t like the 4cyl. The adapter plate, input shaft and I think the bell housing are all interchangeable with V-6. use the same radiator etc. Originally I used the stock jeep V-6 mounts for my BobCat (46 frame) Now I guess I need to know what a stock F weighs ? This getting all to high tech. 🙂 Since I’ve owned several V-8’s, I know what they will do. Only a couple times would the V-8 been better than my old V-6. Now the tough part is getting to you. You know prices better than me Chris but this looks like a good candidate. I’ll tell you where to beef up the frame and how if needed. Looks like a good top. leave the paint just like is.

  21. Roy1959CJ3b

Chris how much does a stock F-head weigh? Sure hope they have some real jeep trails in your neighbor hood. 🙂 because you have fun.

  22. Minnesota Chris

I want to say they are around 470lbs. Lots of trails around. Depends on what type you’re after. The good old minimal maintenance roads around the farm fields, logging trails, lake roads. Nothing like the mountain trails of the Rockies though

  23. Roy1959CJ3b

Chris that’s okay. They are taking our traditional style jeeping away from us. But you and I can still have fun. Maybe next year we can get together in Idaho, and go have some fun. Those roads in your area could be lots fun in the snow. I have a lot to do before I can get serious again. Since I’m moving. You guys made me Guilty about my 3b. 🙂 So I guess later, I better find one to beat on 🙂 lol Just let know if you need me.
