Has some mini terra tires.
“This is a real deal barn find. This 1947 Willys make you feel like its the early 70s again. Pretty darn clean body, original flathead 4 cylinder. Equipped with an aftermarket soft top. Come take a look. Would be a fun project. $2500. Call me at ”
OK, I’ll bite: why would a 1947 Willys make you feel like it’s the early 70’s again? This ride was already 23 yrs old in 1970… what am I missing?
Unless this has an 8-track and shag carpet, …or maybe those mod seats? 🙂
Could be a good deal, though. Worth checking out.
the ’70’s was when teens like me would find an old jeep and throw in a v-8 or v-6, headers, overdrive, etc. jeeps like this were cheap, plentiful; and parts were easy to get. my first jeep was a ’47. regret selling it to this day. I have jeeps now, but nothing will be like the first.
Frank, while I wan’t a teen until the very late 70s, I did see others do just as you describe. Besides, those tires could very well be from the 70s.
This is what I get for not staying current on my ewillys/searchtempest finds. I was in Ottumwa yesterday….
Yeah, that will teach ya! 🙂
Those tires look to me like the ones they called ugly dogs that they still sell 🙂
Roy,
Good point. I’ve heard them called mini-terra’s for obvious reasons. This 1974 ad identifies them as Mini-Terrors: http://www.ewillys.com/wp-content/uploads2/2013/02/1974-02-four-wheeler-mini-terror-ad.jpg
“Ugly Dog” recaps are available here: https://www.tirerecappers.com/tires/light-trucks-tires/lt309-50r15-retread-ugly-dog/

The centers have the right profile for mini-terra”s, (which is a recap) but they changed the out side Quarters on the Ugly dog. Sure look like Ugly dogs. woof -woof lol 🙂
I always called them Mini-terra’s. Remember how much I paid each $25 . If you check the picture of me at the Sunfair 300 in 1976, you sent me, you see four on the jeep. I like them better than the desert dogs for traction.
I did just the opposite. I went from the mini-terra’s to the the dogs because I liked them better … lol. I just checked out the pic. Yep, they look like mini-terras. I’ll share that photo with folks in the next couple of days.
I used both ( lol) Used the dogs for cross-country. I saw your ad on the mini’s, appears I don’t know what I’m talking about as usual. 🙂 Started using the Bridgestone radials on a narrow rim on the big jeep. no more flats. Did the Mint without one flat. 🙂 Thanks Dave
It could be the tires were marketed as mini-terrors by one recapper and mini-terras by others. I’d love to find an old ad that identifies a bunch of old tires. Still looking for that one.
