“I’m getting older so it’s time to clear out some of the childhood toys. Offered here is a pretty rare Jeep CJ-6 last operational in 1988. I’m 56 years old and I have only ever seen 4 of these including this one, & one in a John Wayne movie. The VIN has a prefix of 8422 making this an extremely rare “Tuxedo Park” model, only 460 of which are reported to have been made.

The CJ-6 is the same as a CJ-5 but is 20 inches longer. F head four cylinder I had just put a new starter on. 13 leaf military springs(they used these as front line ambulances in Vietnam). Tires hold air well enough to get it loaded but I wouldn’t tow it with them. Clear Missouri Title.

In 1988 the pilot shaft bearing went out in the transmission so I parked it until I could get parts. I bought an International Scout to cannibalize(most of the parts interchange). But after driving the Scout for a week I couldn’t bring myself to tear it up I also have several early Scouts to be offered at a later date. I’d consider partial trades towards item listed below.

Lots of people asking lots of questions.

#1, no, it no longer has the original column shifter. It’s on the floor with two sticks rather than the more common three.

#2, floorboard is solid. Bed has some holes in it. Pattern rust on the quarters.

#3, don’t know about the body/cab supports. I assume they are fine as it’s not sagging. There we no issues when it was parked. I’m not going to crawl under it now to check them.

#4, all the chrome stuff a Tuxedo is supposed to have is still there. I converted one windshield wiper to electric. The other is still vacuum.

#5, Clean & clear Missouri title.

#6, Yes, I would accept a non-refundable deposit of 20% to hold it for a determined amount of time(no more than 2 months) as it is blocking the removal of other stuff I need rid of.

Make it worth your trip, search Craigs list for other items listed in “Cross Timbers”.

Wanted:
Military equipment of all types, Vehicles, Trailer, weapons, radio equipment.
Also ham & military radios of any vintage.
Small-medium sized camper, 8ft Jon boat.”

Damn, parked for a pilot bushing? I don’t know if it’s a Tuxedo Park or not, but I like the 1/2 cab on a cj6. That looks pretty good.

  2. Colin Peabody

I don’t think these ever came with an L-head motor. Should be an F-head, unless the seller thinks F-head means flathead. Not too knowledgeable if this is the only one he has seen other than the one in Hatari. Too much missing to tell if it was a Tuxedo Park IV. It would have had some emblems and a chrome front bumper which has been modified.

  3. Bill

Has to be a Tux. Chrome: hinges, wipers, tail lights, hold-downs, etc. Also has the lic plate bracket.

    And I agree…. 1/2 cab CJ-6’s are very cool

I see enough to think it may be a Tuxedo. Certainly worth a look to confirm or refute. Someone should have a look. Not a lot of cj6 Tuxedo Parks out there.

The top is very interesting, I like the rear door of it. A Tuxedo would get a full hard top, right?
It missing both emblem and front bumper to be a Tuxedo. The serial number would tell us for sure which model it is. Look like the rear bumper was added over the original one.
    It has original side step!

Looks like the dog house off of a 70/71 . The grill is a 65, but the hood & fenders are newer. Park light holes in front fenders. I’ve got a 71 CJ5 that came factory with stainless hood hinges & hold down, and its not aTux. I thought Tuxs only came with the 225.

7 hold downs. I thought that tuxs were only v6s

Still there as of a week ago. Just emailed the guy to see if he would part with the top and doors. I’ve got a ’71 and I’ve been looking for one of these tops for years. Although it’d be nice to have the tux, this one looks pretty far gone. Can’t justify another Jeep either.

There has to be something up with this jeep. Seller says it’s a 8422 vin prefix, so it is a cj6a. 6a’s are rare, very rare, so why is this still hanging around? It needs a lot work, but it’s a 6a. I don’t get it…
