A May 1957 article from Willys News reported that the first FC-150 to Alaska was sent by plane. Unfortunately, to fit on the plane it had to be disassembled. Look how close that cab is to not fitting. Someone in Alaska sure wanted that FC badly!

I like the choice of wording “Luxury Cab” when describing the FC-150.
I wouldn’t have wanted to be that pilot. The McGrath airport is listed at only 2000′ long. While it’s *possible* to land a DC3 in that amount of space, it would require every bit of the runway to do so. I think M-D lists the minimum runway required at 2100 feet for a DC3.
Somebody go up to that mine & see if you can find this.
Red Devil mine had its own strip at 4800′ at near sea level. Should have been no issue with performance. Mine hasnt operated in forty years or so. Never saw the FC there. Probably wouldnt last long in use there.
I bought a new Warn overdrive for my M-38 from Airport Machinery and I believe the price was around $100 but this purchase was many years ago.
Many, many years ago I posted this picture and Dr. Vern picked up on it and did a lot of research on the Jeep and the mine. He had started a Willys dealership project but and had a picture of the mine with a possible siting of the FC there. Alas, I went to Vern’s site and it is no longer up.
Craig,
I just went to Vern’s site and saw a Malware warning. I used a malware site to check it out. According to the site, it looks like Vern’s site was hacked at some point. Too bad!
