The mule is pulling the stuck Bantam “midget tractor” out of the mud.
“Artillery’s “dark ages””??? Those might just be fightin’ words to old Cavalrymen like my grandfather… or to the Lamb’s Artillery (historic reenactment group). The horse and mule represented the “glory days” to them.
…or course as an Engineer Officer, I like machines 🙂
