UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $300
The hubs include a storage box.
“These vintage 1950s WARN hubs are used to convert jeeps and other Willys vehicles from full-time four wheel drive to two wheel drive by replacing the grooved 4WD hub with a non-grooved hub. An integral needle bearing and a separate bushing support the splined axle end in the non-grooved hub.
They are called “summer” hubs because owners would remove the early full-time 4WD hubs from their vehicles during the summer when 4WD was not required, to increase gas mileage, and to reduce wear on tires and drive train parts. They are also attractive with the “waffle” pattern and script “Warn” on each shiny aluminum hub.
These hubs are completely functional and may be installed and used on Willys vehicles today.
These are NOT manually locking hubs. They cannot be “switched” between two- and four-wheel drive –they are ALWAYS two-wheel drive.
Other 4WD-to-2WD conversions are accomplished by removing the grooves in a 4WD hub. Without a bushing there is no support for the axle end in the now-oversized interior of the hub, which may result in damage to the axle end.
The hubs for sale here were manufactured to replace 4WD hubs AND support the axle ends properly. The hub could be removed and the 4WD re-installed at any time.
Complete kit includes:
– axle end bushing (steel), quantity 2
– hub (aluminum) with needle bearings (steel), quantity 2
– storage box (steel) with hub storage spindles (fiberboard and wood) and instructions (paper)
Both hubs show evidence of having been installed — gasket residue and marks where fasteners were used to attach the hubs. The hubs, bearings, and bushings are in EXCELLENT condition, showing very little use. The hubs show NO pitting, staining, flaking, or signs of abuse. One hub has a shiny spot across the top of the “n” in “Warn” and the adjacent hub edge.
The storage box shows some surface rust, predominately on the lid, bottom, and one end. The han-dle, hinge, and latch are fully functional. Pat. No. 1912915 is stamped in the bottom of the box. An instruction sheet is glued to the interior of the lid and is intact with no torn areas; though showing some stains, the copy is completely readable.
Warn Manufacturing (now Warn Industries) was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 1948.
These hubs MAY be appropriate for use on these Willys vehicles:
