John spotted an article about the military’s sale of some Humvees.
WASHINGTON — What in the world is the U.S. military going to do with all of its surplus Humvees? For the first time, it will auction off as many as 4,000 of the workhorse vehicles for sale to the public, instead of scrapping them.
Even as controversy churns over the Pentagon’s transfer of military equipment to local civilian police departments, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) sent the first batch to auction through IronPlanet’s GovPlanet.com. Since bidding started at $10,000 a couple of weeks ago, pent up demand has yielded bids on nearly all of the Humvees — selling for off-road use only.

Popular Mechanics ad – Government Surplus Humvees, still in a box $50.00
The 1st batch are just up the road from me. I better jump on it and be one of 1st to get one! But then again I better not.
I don’t follow Humvees closely, but I have never seen that particular front end design.
Aw, c’mon Bill…that be Jeeps inna box, eh? Sad part of this is two fold; first: Hummers sent out with our earliest soldiers had “canvas” armored doors…stopped aggressive insects but not much else incoming. Second; when cooler {SMARTER} heads got onto the design team, gun shields, vehicle armor etc came into play…now we are selling this EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT that we the TAXPAYERS paid for with our HARD, HARD-EARNED DOLLARS FOR pennies {don’t know how few} on the buck. rats! how ’bout we store these HUMMVEES {historical note: our gov’t slammed “hummer” because it “sounded like” “bummer”…} my perspective: {sounds like “hummer” to me} for the next dumb “conflict” the {greatest country in the WORLD is gonna get wrapped up in wot ever it is…dammit}…. That’s as close I’ll get to a rant, folks…sad part is, after almost 42 years service, Active, USAR, MNARNG, { I’m retired…Combat Engineers} my dreams keep bringing me back to slidin’ in with some unit to share my skills ‘n make a doggone difference. thx for listening, folks, i guess the ole sarge hasta vent……{{largest thanks for my yappin, Dave!}}
Sounds like you’ve earned the right to do some yappin Boomer. Thanks for your service!
