UPDATE: More photos added, including interior shots. It’s clearly a compilation of parts. It is listed as a 1950 M-38, but the body and fenders are MBish or aftermarket MBish. Unclear why there are no tool indents on driver’s side.

I’m leaning towards DJ. No gas tank well. Exhaust under drivers seat. Civilian top bows where they would be at on DJ. Snaps for tip along the sides. DJ type bumperettes It does have military windshield. 1950 would put it in the DJ era.
Your points are good. I didn’t catch the DJ bumperettes. The DJ body would have the drain holes near the steps (but, those could have been filled). I wondered about the exhaust under the driver. I figured due to the V6 that the exhaust went down both sides of the jeep. Because of that, I made a guess that they moved the tank inside or into the rear.
Also the hood from my 53 DJ has no raised Willys on it just like the one in these pictures.
Eric, you have a 1953 DJ? Do you have a VIN number for that?
I ask because DJs weren’t produced until 1956. All the civilian 1/4 ton vehicles such as the DJs and CJ-2A, 3A, & 3Bs all had the Willys brand stamped in the hood. Military jeeps like the MB/GPW and M-38s did not. Some aftermarket hood are stamped and others aren’t.
I’m thinking the dash is wrong for a DJ. My guess is Repop of some sort. 🙂
The steering is all over the place on this Jeep. The tranny does not shift properly. I was able get it up to 50 mph. It has been painted with aircraft paint that is cracked in several places and is rusting. The tires are dry rotted. Brass plates in the glove box are to a CJ2A. Gas filler is on the rear to the right of the spare. When I looked at it the gas cap was missing and replaced with a rag. It was also missing the air filter.
