“Rare 1974 Jeep CJ6. If you are not familiar with the CJ6, it’s basically a CJ5 that has been stretched 20 inches. They were produced from 1955-1975. This Jeep was parked for the last two years and in need of an owner who will use it. I rescued it a couple of months ago with the idea of restoring it, but I don’t have the time. The engine runs strong, it’s the factory 304.

The jeep was in the same family since new up until I got it. It spent the first 35 years of it’s life on a farm in Connecticut until it came south with the son. He modified the jeep from its original state at some point after moving to Florida.

Replaced the Carb from the original 2 barrel to a 4 barrel, added headers and dual exhaust, Upgraded the bumpers, put an 8″ suspension lift, later model axles from a YJ, 18″ rims and 36″ Toyo tires (I was told the tires are about 3 years old, tons of tread, no signs of dry rot). The rims do have some pitting. He claimed the engine had 28 thousand original miles on it when it left the farm and he guesses he has put about 5,000 miles on it since he’s had it (I have no way of verifying this, but from the way he engine runs, I believe it).

The engine has not been rebuilt or modified in any other way, besides after market valve covers. When he re-did the Jeep he removed all the factory gauges and installed new ones, there is no longer an accurate odometer. The speedometer doesn’t appear to be hooked up, and the gas gauge is not working, but the rest seem to be functioning. The lights work, and he put in custom tail lights when he did the body. When he installed the lift and new axles, the front drive shaft (I do have it) was now too short and he never got a longer one, so the 4 wheel drive is not hooked up.

The transfer case is there. He said the 4-wheel drive/hubs on the replacement axles were all functioning properly prior to installation. The gearing on the replacement axles do not match up well with the original 3 speed manual transmission. His remedy was to put the transfer case in low, this works and the jeep is drivable like this (actually pretty good), but I had planned to change the gearing and install the front drive shaft and get the 4 wheel drive functioning. The gas tank looks like it may have been replaced, looks good. He also had the jeep painted and here is were we run into some issues. He said he removed the tub and did the body work himself, he obviously didn’t get all the rust out prior to the respray.

There is rust bubbling up from under the paint in several spots, especially on the dash and there are a couple of scratches. The underneath of the tub is very rusty, but the frame is in good shape. The rust seems limited to the tub, and mostly on the underside. The inside looks pretty good and has been rhino-lined. The front seats are not original and are in pretty good condition, cloth. Not sure what they are out of but they look pretty good in the jeep. I do have a back seat for it, but it’s in rough shape.

Needs a good cleaning and maybe a cover, but it’s included. Also have a full top that looks trashed to me, but you can be the judge of that. There is a new mesh bikini top on it. I have the original axles and they are yours if you want them. The jeep will need a battery, I have a battery in it from one of my other toys, so you can hear it run and load it on a trailer, but I need the battery back. I would recommend trailering the jeep home to be on the safe side. I have a trailer and can deliver locally, maybe nearby as well for a fee.”
