Dorothea Lange is famous for her Depression era photo of a migrant mother. In the 1950s she traveled to Southeast Asia. Fortunately for us, she took some jeep photos while she was there and the Online Archives of California has preserved them.

I don’t remember seeing Arctic tops – in fact I can’t remember jeeps with tops over in Vietman. I had a contact truck (like a M37), trucks had tops. Guess there were jeep tops, but most drivers, I guess, rode in the open rain or put a poncho on
These photos seem to be from Korea or Japan due to the writing on the signs and some of the dress in the pictures. Vietnamese scriipt was changed over by the French in the early 1900’s to use Latin script, similar to English or western Europe script. Preliminary work on this was by the Portugese and later in the 1600’s by the French with the final changes around 1910 – 1918.
