This story is interesting. Larson was involved in starting a jeep club in the mid 1960s. Apparently, manufacturers threatened to cut off warranties for any vehicles that entered a club. I’d never heard that.

Is this the same Lou from pre-Nothstar Willys fame in Minnesota? Kind of looks like him but the Lou Larson from the Willys Reunions has always has white hair. (Now we’re talkin’ 25 years after this picture was taken) Lou had a standing offer, $10,000 for an original crated up Army Surplus Jeep back in the day when 10 grand was a ton for a Jeep but no one ever came up with one.

Yes, that is the same Louie. Good Guy.

I’ve got to call BS on the article though. I have several AMC/Renault Jeep policy letters on Club participation and sponsorship. Heck , they sponsored the biggest Club, the Jeepers Jamboree!

The article quotes Louie saying he can remember 12 years ago when the jeeps involved in club activities would be threatened with warranty coverage denial by the manufacturers……the article is from 77 and that would make the time period 1965….before the AMC /Renault deal ?? I was only 6 at the time, so I can’t remember who ran the jeep empire back then…

I wonder if he knows his image is being sold on Ebay?

Willys Motors, followed by Kaiser Jeep started sponsoring the Jamboree in 1954, but I get your point. It could have been a rogue dealer or just how Louie remembered it.

Back then Louie would have probably been working for Merrill Madsden and Ray Cowdery?
