UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
Seller’s description looks thorough.
“Up for auction is a 1948 Willys CJ2A “Universal” Jeep. It starts every time with a simple pull on the choke and a twist of the key, even after sitting for months and moves on down the road like it should. This is a joy to take for a ride and always turns heads and gets honks and waves. The only reason I am letting it go is I need the garage space and I couldn’t abide keeping it outdoors, even for a night.
When I purchased it from the family of the original owner recently, the vehicle had undergone an almost complete restoration including painting of the body, frame and motor, replacement of the wiring harness, new vinyl on the seats and new rubber on the wheels. It retains its original motor and transmission. Additionally an overdrive kit was added. It was repainted in its original Luzon Red with Universal Beige trim.
And like most, if not all, Jeeps of the age, it does lose the occasional drip of oil when it is parked, but not even a half a quart between oil changes.
The restoration, though well done was not perfectly period correct. The bolts used have grade stamping, a couple of modern plastic park turn lights were added to the front, etc, but all was/is well done. But as can be expected from a few years gone by, there are a couple little nicks and chips in the paint and some wear in the foot wells. There is not ma spot of rust anywhere to be seen as is evident in the photos. It is not a $50,000 Barrett-Jackson show stopper, but it wouldn’t take much if that’s your goal.
A canvas top, with doors, was also installed on the vehicle. It can be seen in two of the photos. I removed it but it will be provided with the jeep so you can re-install it is you would like.
Since owning it I have added the spare tire and mount to the rear fender, replaced the master cylinder and did a tune-up just a month ago. I also removed modern plastic taillight / turn signals and replaced them with the correct units as can be seen in the photos.
One note, I noticed the oil pressure gauge was not working. I ordered a new gauge but just have not had the time to install it. It will be provided with the Jeep. I did look and saw the old gauge is not wired in. Maybe all it needs is to be wired and the old gauge will work just fine. The Jeep does not have wipers, they were an option not included. It also does not have the parking brake.
