UPDATE: SOLD. Was $14,000.
“Clear TN title.
1944 Ford GPW. Reproduction Data Plates match GPW number on frame.
Historical vehicle that is fun to drive.
She leaks a little, it is 70 years old.
This vehicle turns heads when you drive it.
No top included.”
This vehicle is mine.
When I purchased it, the vehicle was a Navy Jeep. I just retired from the Army and I did not want a Navy Jeep. That is why the canvas seats are gray.
I had the data plates made in the Netherlands based on the GPW frame engraving. Based on dialouge with the gentleman who manufactured the plates for me, we came up with a March 1944 delivery date.
The hood numbers were derived from a hood number generator found on line.
I paint is late WW2 lusterless OD ordered from RAPCO. The stencils came from Beachwood.
The bumper number came from the 2nd CAV, My great Uncle was in the 2d CAV and I was in the 2nd ACR in Desert Storm.
There are some F script bolts and others are plain. Driver seat frame is F script, passenger is not.
The hand crank, tire pump and oil can are present. The original firewall fuel filter is mounted but it is bypassed. I have not taken the time in last 18 months too remove clean and re-connect fuel lines.
The vehicle does not pop out of gear. Currently the brakes are out. I have a master cylinder from Kaiser Willys that I have been waiting on warmer weather to install. The emergency brake handle is installed but I have not explored making it functional. I just retired and family/multiple trips to Afghanistan hasn’t made it a priority. I changed all 4 shocks and rear leaf springs, the vehicle still has a list to the left in the rear. In the event i keep the vehicle any advice on correcting list would be appreciated.
Should anyone desire more pictures of a specific view please let me know and I can email to you.
I will be in Fort Campbell Area until late May and then I am moving to Huntsville Alabama.
This vehicle won’t win a show but it would look good in a museum or your garage.
My post military retirement job is taking me overseas. I don’t want a 70 year vehicle to sit for 2-3 years. But I will store it if I don’t get a reasonable offer.
Thanks, NSDQ
